It was one of those days when it's a minute away from snowing and there's this electricity in the air, you can almost hear it. And this bag was, like, dancing with me. Like a little kid begging me to play with it. For fifteen minutes. And that's the day I knew there was this entire life behind things, and... this incredibly benevolent force, that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid, ever. Video's a poor excuse, I know. But it helps me remember... and I need to remember... Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in.

visited Parsons The New School for Design, one of the many parts of the The New School in Manhattan. I adore it there! I toured Parsons which is the part of the school that offers fashion(!), visual arts, and photography. They also have a liberal arts school, a drama school, and a performing arts school. David M. Schwartz is the fashion center @ the school, PRoject Runway is also hosted there during the kids breaks from school! Parsons, in the village, has a floor for fashion, but the center is that x 50 and it's a bit uptown, but an easy subway ride from washington square park. I adore this school so much, can't wait to apply!

Back peddle to the 1980's, a decade famous for it's distinct style. A decade where street style met the runway, where parachute pants, obnoxious colored leggings (neon and hot pink), rips and tears, over sized tanks and tees with graphic designs, leg warmers in crazy knit patters, leotards, metallics, high top retro basketball sneaks, and over sized shoulder pads topped it off to give the 1980s the label rebellious, and too much is never too much. One woman represented it all through her music, her performance, her style, and her crazy ambition which made all her fans and fellow performers take a big step back and pause. She lived off all the 1980s, and invented fashion music and life for women to live for and live through..her #1 single was even called "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." That's right Cyndi Lauper along with Madonna was a huge inspiration during the 80s, and continues to inspire fashion in our day and age whenever 80s styles are incorporated in a look. If an 80s look is incorporated, then it's most likely Cyndi Lauper once wore something similar or inspired something similar.
In this day fashion, music, performance, and that crazy and flared ambition we saw in those cool 80's divas is shown through the looks of many popular musical artists like Lauper, of course nowadays it all depends on what genre you're talking about. However, one pop culture symbol represents all of the above no matter what genre she may fall under. She is exactly Cyndi Lauper 30 or so years ago, and not only looks it but her name is completely, well, costume esque. Her name is Lady Gaga as we all know. As much as I hate talking about popular things, I'd rather be uncovering behind the scene things and unwinding through the indie life and searching through the works of more unique uncorrupted artists and designers, it's important to mention GaGa not only because she is seen as the next queen of pop behind Diana Ross, but she is also collaborating with a decade or two behind her in order to promote a new product for MAC. MAC's Viva Glam Spring 2010 campaign was released in February, but just hit stores now in March. Both of these idols represents a shade of lipstick and both collaborate together to give off the vibes the lipstick should give to its buyers. Lauper's color is a classic bright red called Viva Glam Cyndi, while Gaga's is a posh light pink with a purple hint called Viva Glam Gaga, that stands out like bumble gum against any shade of skin. They are also the new faces of MAC AIDS fund, which has been represented by many pop culture faces since 1994 raising a total sum of $150 million.
Lauper's classic red is signed by the star herself, and same with miss Lady Gaga's bubble gum pink product.

I look at all the lonely people.

All The Lonely People by The Beatles is a beautiful mix of classic Beatles alternative rock with classical instrumentals. The lyrics of the song are as followed:

I look at all the lonely people.
I look at all the lonely people.

Ella Marigby
Picks up the rice in the church where her wedding has been;
Lives in a dream.
Waits at the window,
Wearing a face that she keeps in a jar by the door.
Who is it for?
All the lonely people, where do they all come from?
All the lonely people, where do they all belong?

Father MacKenzie
Writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear;
No one comes near.
Look at him working,
Nodding his socks in the night when there's nobody there.
What does he care?
All the lonely people, where do they all come from?
All the lonely people, where do they all belong?

I look at all the lonely people.
I look at all the lonely people.

Ella Marigby
Died in the church and was buried alone with her name.
Nobody came.
Father MacKenzie
Wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from her grave.
No one was saved.
All the lonely people, where do they all come from?
All the lonely people, where do they all belong?

Although the song has many references and meanings I think a wonderful thing about it is that it can relate to many of our continental issues in the modern world, as it may have worked for issues back then as well. This song was made around the time of Vietnam, as most of their songs were written to protest the war. But when I listen to the lyrics and the beautiful classic violins accompanied by the corky whiny voices of Paul, John, Ringo, and George I relate to the situation Haiti is now in because of the devastating earthquake. On that note, everyone should know that you don't have to be Lady Gaga, Molly Sims, Dave Matthews, or Angelina Jolie to do something to help their country. These are just a few of the names associated with hollywood and the Haiti relief effort. But everyday amazing people can do something to, even if it's just as simple as buying an adorable t-shirt. The money for these t-shirts that are sold at department stores like Saks and Nordstroms go to the Haiti relief effort and to research for AIDS. All it takes is something to 11$ or 42$ depending on where you purchase, but any money at all can buy abundances of food and clothing for the devastated people of Haiti. Remember we're all in this together, and nobody is alone.
